There are many things to see and do while in Santorini

The island is the scene where one of the biggest volcano eruptions ever recorded. Around 3,600 years ago, the volcano began to erupt, creating massive tsunamis that struck Crete. Crete led to the final fall of the Minoan civilization. Today, Santorini is a water-filled crescent that is the remains of the ancient volcano. The cities of Oia, Fira, and Imerovigli are located within the rim of the caldera.

Sunset in OIA

You’ve likely seen the famous sunset pictures of Oia. That may be the reason our check-in Santorini was added to your “must-see” bucket list. We’re glad it worked for us!

Oia (pronounced”ee-uh”) is among the most beautiful spots in Santorini to enjoy the sunset. The blue dome church nestled among the whitewashed structures is the ideal spot for watching the sun go down. This is Santorini’s busiest place during sunset, so you can expect large crowds of tourists there.

Sunset in Imerovigli

Imerovigli isn’t as well-known as Oia however it’s still an excellent spot to enjoy both the sunrise and sunset. It’s also more peaceful, which is another reason it’s so beautiful.

It is possible to enjoy the view as you walk along the narrow pathways from your terrace, hot tub, or pool (if you booked the hotel with its own pool in this area) or from any of the restaurants.

Sunset Cruise

Another excellent excursion to do in Santorini is to enjoy an evening cruise. From the catamaran, take in the stunning view over the towns in white along the caldera’s rim and enjoy the amazing view as the sunset goes down. Many cruises provide meals, drinks, as well as the opportunity to snorkel or swim.

A walk through Skaros Rock

Skaros Rock is a large rock cliff that protrudes out from the island below Imerovigli. It was the site of an old castle and fortresses. Today, it’s a sought-after photographing and hiking spot. Explore the trails along the rock, take in those views that take you back to Imerovigli, and marvel at the remnants of the previous fortresses.

To reach the rock, take the walking trail that zig-zags starting from Imerovigli up to Agios Ioannis Church. Then continue along the path to Skaros Rock.

Tasting of Wine Tasting

Wine is an important industry in Santorini. Assyrtiko is the primary grape that is grown on Santorini and is used in a variety of wines produced on the island. Wineries are available to visit on your own or join the tour. Santo Wines is the most frequented winery however Venetsanos Winery is also an excellent choice.

The walk starts starting from Fira to Oia

Walking through the caldera, from Oia through Imerovigli up to Fira was among our most memorable moments in Santorini. The most enjoyable part of it is the views across Oia along with the caldera, as well as exploring the hiking trails that lead from Imerovigli through Fira.

The walk covers 6 miles long and could take between 3 and 5 hours dependent on the speed at which you’re walking and how frequently you stop. It’s more like an adventure than a walk as you’ll be walking on dirt trails and walking through hillsides and up hillsides for a part of the walk, however, the majority of the route is asphalt.

You can walk either way. We went through Oia through Fira. In my opinion, however, it’s an experience that is better walking through Fira through Oia. This would create a more streamlined downward walk (although you’ll have to climb some hills) You also get to take in the breathtaking views of Oia right in front of you (rather than turning around to view the views) Also, you could finish the walk with Oia. Enjoy the remainder of your day exploring the village take in the sunset, and then head back to your accommodation.

Oia

Sure, Oia has become famous for being the place to go for sunset. However, it’s equally beautiful in the daytime. Walk along the narrow pathways shop, wander from the cafe pool bar to cafe, and be prepared to load your camera’s memory card with many photographs. It’s one of the most photographed spots in Santorini.

Explore Imerovigli

Picturesque Imerovigli. The tiny village of Imerovigli is gorgeous and is home to some of the most luxurious restaurants and hotels in Santorini. It’s not a shopping destination and cafes that those found at Fira or Oia however, it isn’t crowded.

Red Beach

Volcanic Santorini is home to several unique and vibrant beaches. The first beach on the list includes Red Beach. The most well-known Santorini beach. The unusual red color is due to the crushed volcanic rock. It is situated near Akrotiri. Akrotiri archeological excavation site.

But, it’s also vulnerable to landslides and it is a danger. This could be one beach where you can just take in the view from nearby rocks from afar before moving on. For more details, check out this article.

White Beach

Just across the street from Red Beach is White Beach. This beach’s name comes due to the white cliffs that dominate the region and the sand here is black. It is the only method to reach it is via boat, but you can enjoy a stunning view of the beach if would like to take an adventure.

To reach the viewpoint, you’ll first drive on the small, rough, and dirt road that is not named. The road begins close to Kambia Beach, which is located near the Aeolos Tavern and then leads into Kambia Beach. We did not drive the route because the road turned out far too bumpy for our vehicle to take on. We walked along the road, passing by little houses, dogs barking, and vineyards. A few houses away There are unmarked trails that lead upwards and up an uphill to a view that overlooks the White Beach. It’s a quick walk up to the point of view (2 to 30 minutes). There is a long walk to see views of the coast towards Red Beach. Red Beach.
